The City's Matters

Where are They?

Over the last two weeks, reports have begun to flood the Royal Guards of men going missing overnight. While no official statement has been made at this time, this paper has received word that these men have been seen one day, and gone by the next morning. Our source has revealed that there have been no signs of struggle at any of the reports they have investigated, with the missing men having taken none of their belongings, not even their boot. In a twist of peculiarity in an already peculiar situation, it would seem that the only connection in the disappearances is the men themselves; as of this reporting, all the missing individuals are men under thirty years of age, all well fit and healthy, and all considered handsome by those that know them.

The Royal Academy was contacted to inquire if perhaps these disappearances were somehow connected to the ongoing projects of it's aracanely-inclined students and faculty. While no statement was made available for release, this paper was assured that while ongoing projects could not be discussed, the common characteristics of the missing men pointed towards an act of deliberateness instead of random happenstance that could occur with backlash of any projects.

Terrors from the Wharf

Drached was attacked by unknown sea-life this week, leaving several injured and many puzzled over what had happened. When questioned by this paper, workers at the wharf all expressed confusion over what occurred, with many agreeing that it had started with a shipment of fish. While the men who had worked that particular boat were not available - and their whereabouts uncertain - this paper was told that the creatures had been stuffed into barrels that had been buried under the fish. As the barrels were uncovered, many of them burst open unleashing creatures of amphibious origin. They moved on four legs with webbed like paws, had sleek and slimy frogskin, big black eyes, and snarling maws that made them resemble fish and dog combined. While the Royal Guard dispatched the majority of the creatures, several had managed to find their way to the notorious where they were dispatched by tournament contestant Griffin and two female associates of his.

Seven were found dead in the wake of the attack.

Bodies of the creatures were taken to the Royal Academy for inspection. While no official statement has been released, the Academy warns that in case of further exposure to these Seadogs - as they have been called by some - to avoid the fins as well as claws of the creatures as they appear to be extremely toxic and result in a night of chills, shaking, and fever.

A Champion of Justice

When Merchant's Festival Tournament's most notorious, controversial competitor Dunagal "Grimblade" Arunsun found out that his opponent, Griffin, had withdrawn from the tournament, the dwarf turned on the crowd, taunting the fine citizens of Drache to fight him. It came as quite a shock to all present when the Reshalian dignitary Field Marshall Camden Howe rose up to accept the challange. Arunsun and Field Marshall Howe fought intensely until, facing defeat, Grimblade turned and fled, unable to face defeat at the hands of justice and righteousness. This paper offers it's most humble gratitude to the Field Marshall For being a beacon of hope in a time froght with corruption and catastrophe.

The Drought Breaks

In a rare bit of good news these days, reports have poured in that the drought conditions have broken and in time for some of the crops to be saved for harvest. While many farmers are relieved that rain has begun to fall to help water their crops, some are still warning of a hard winter. They say that too much time has passed for the harvest to be a truly bountiful one. They say there will be food, but people should expect to feel hunger as the winter stretches out.

A Helping Noble Hand

It would seem that Arangigire Karys Tienette Renaven has been bringing food in from Arlohorna and providing food for the less fortunate in the city in an attempt to alleviate some of the hunger that has begun spread in the presence of increased food costs. It would seem that at least one noble is capable of caring for others when many would be more inclined to preserve their food for themselves, hoarding it away for lavish parties.

Unrest Gripes the City's Heart

Protests have begun to spring up around the city with many of it's citizens calling for justice from those in power. The drought, the attacks, the scandal with the tournament in conscripting unwitting participants as well as allowing underhanded tactics to go unpunished, have all caused a furor to creep through the city, quietly building a fire in the hearts of it's citizens. While many are gathering to demonstrate their ire peacefully, there have been reports of some protesters rioting and defacing government buildings.

One protestor - Bob, who had attacked tournament contestant Griffin after his first match - has even called out the Sithire, claiming that corruption runs deep in our government.

Dunagal "Grimblade" Arunsun: A Symbol of Corruption?

As most of our readers have likely heard, the investigation into Dunagal "Grimblade" Arunsun's controversial matches has drawn to a close and Arunsun was cleared to compete in his his next match, leaving many to wonder just what is going on. While the majority of spectators agree that Arunsun's tactics were rather underhanded and tainted the spirit of competition associated with the Merchant's Festival tournament. After being cleared to continue competing, Arunsun faced off against Izadora Henocque and proceeded to defeat yet another opponent. Only days later, Griffin withdrew from the tournament, and while no official explaination has been offered for the withdrawel, many suspect it is in response to the allowance of such tactics as have been displayed by Arunsun.
