Dragon Attack!

Post by metalslime »

The mystery of the unnatural volcanic activity off the coast was solved in a most violent manner last night (04/06) when a tremendous eruption spewed ash, fire, lava, and a truly massive and ancient wyrm into the air. The beast launched a raid on the city of Drache, accompanied by several fiery serpent men that we have discovered are known as Salamanders.

After taking to the sky, the wyrm strafed along the Darian and toward the Forest Reserve, before banking to attack Castle Black directly. Many fires were ignited simply from the sheer proximity of the beast, a testament to the extreme heat it radiated. At Castle Black, the creature used some manner of volcanic breath to damage and partially melt the outer walls, before winging away as fast as it had arrived. It went on to strafe over the BlkDragon district, bellowing a challenge in an ancient tongue, before retreating back to its island abode.

During this attack, several Salamanders laid waste to the docks and spread fires along the Wharf District. Many ships were either damaged or sunk, but the efforts of the guard, the Wharf Commander, and an adventurer new to the city pushed them back into the sea before they could progress further.

Damage to the southwestern portion of the city was severe, but it could have been worse if not for the actions of the brave Wharf Commander and the assistance of a few traveling adventurers. Besides the assistance at the docks, a few used spells to contain the fires in the Forest Reserve, limiting damage to the trees there. A fortuitous storm did much to help the efforts of the firefighters throughout the city.

Still, damage is quite noticeable, whether it be the burned out wreckage along the waterfront, the mass of ash and charred logs amidst the Forest Reserve, the half melted wall of Castle Black, or the melted strip of road outside the Blkdragon Inn, where the creature's magma breath was unleashed.

The exact details of the wyrm's booming speech are still being translated, being a particularly old dialect of the dragon's tongue, but it appeared to be a stake of territorial claim and a demand for tribute of gold and gems. No amount requested, nor deadline appears to have been given.

Incidentally, a fair amount of molten precious metals dripped from the wyrm as it flew past. Citizens are encouraged to donate any significant cooled nuggets found to help pay for repairs of those effected by the dragon's raid, although it is unknown just how much was left behind by the beast.
