A few terms and phrases Alejandra appeared to not be familiar with, or at least the common tongue's version of them at the very least. The whispers between her and her translator lasted for a minute or so, but it may have felt like it took a whole lot longer than that. Once they had concluded, Alejandra took a moment to weigh her response carefully.

"This is as fair a deal as we could have imagined, and a continual open-ended deal with room for renegotiation seems to benefit us both. We certainly did not expect unfettered access to the canal and knew there would be conditions. Of course by the same token you understand that should the full weight of the Armada be needed elsewhere, we will have to pull support from the Inland Sea. We are both situated on the edge, and we understand your needs just as you should understand ours. Marilsan is willing and able to lend you as much aid as we can offer. Should we broker an acceptable deal with her Grace, it is possible for us to send some Brigadas in support of efforts at the northern border you speak of as well?"

The question at the end was mostly meant for Isabelle rather than Sajaad, but she could respond if she wished. The Brigadas, like the Armada, was a fierce tool at Marilsan's disposal. Marilsan, still young as far as its reach, was willing to forge some very strong alliances in order to secure her place in the world.

"We accept these terms should you accept ours as well. In time perhaps we will find more to come to terms with, but this is as fair a deal as I think can be brokered in our current situation, si?"

"Fortunately, our orcish foes do not have much of a naval presence. So I hardly imagine a scenario in which the full Marilsani armada will ever be tapped - save for a declaration of all-out war coming at full surprise to us from a southern power. But with our political standings, this seems both unlikely and improbable without us having some indication that it's being hatched ahead of time.

"Contingencies such as that can be fleshed out further, as well as any threat upon your own homeland that may require us to divert forces en mass to Marilsani territories," Sajaad offered with a nod. The Ambassador turned her attention therein towards the Sithire. Certainly she wouldn't attempt to seal any sort of verbal agreement to put their words to contractual proposals until the great and very bored Isabelle weighed in on these negotiations as the host party to these talks.

The Sithire sat quietly while the two diplomats hashed out the starting ground for their negotiations. She could have inserted herself into the proceedings, but there was little enough need for that. Brokering the arrangement should rain down enough fringe benefits. What interests Transdariania kept did not seem to be forthcoming before both parties at once. Not that the sithrangel had any eyes towards expanding north so much as they wanted to consolidate their hold on this region without relying too much on any particular foreign ally. It was not long ago that Pentland reminded her of some secret negotiation by her predecessors that had required fulfillment. This had never sat well with the woman and she was seeking ways to lessen that dependence.

"If you are both satisfied with the opening salvo of these discussions, then I too, am pleased with the terms, my Lady Ambassadors," Isabelle Auxerre said neutrally, her expression giving away very little as she observed them each in turn for a moment or two. Looking between them, she cracked a small smile and nodded. "I am authorized to recommit Minkbranthan forces to a northern campaign should our allies require it, in the future, if the orcs should stir themselves into a frenzy again." It hardly needed to be said that Sithire Dreth was always happy to pit his people against the orcs, at the drop of a hat, it seemed to be at times. She supported him in this, perhaps out of desire to see him die in glorious battle.

"You have my thanks, your Grace," Alejandra began with a smile, glancing between the two. She nursed her glass of wine, leaving the stem perched delicately between two fingers, swaying back and forth idly. "And to you, my lady," she offered to Sajaad with an equally pleasant smile. She spoke briefly to her translator and after the reply, added, "Shall I send for one of my own scribes so it can be translated for mi Emperatriz?"

"And with this concluded, if you felt there was time to discuss other business, your Grace?" Other business, of course, was likely in regard to those plans. "In all honesty, Marilsan is happy to allow our new friends and neighbors to see them as well, even though that specific bit of business is more in line with your interests."

The offer of allowing the Tyhinnese to see the plans put a lot of faith in these proceedings on Marilsan's part, but expanding their shipbuilding trade, even to a neighboring naval nation, was one of their biggest overall goals.

Sajaad nodded to the blessings that the Sithire had given to the terms they’d arrived at. “Good. I am pleased we’ve all reached the same accord.” To Alejandra, her attention therein turned. “We can draft it now, if you please, or can draft a proposal at another meeting between us at our residency here in Drache. Either way, a major alliance such as this will of course require authorization from a higher level up North before anything is officially ratified.”

Both Hydek and Sajaad found the matter of ships being discussed before them somewhat intriguing. However, it seemed unlikely to be requested present when that topic was revisited - given the Sithire’s opening request to review the matter after their delegation had retired.

The discussion at the main negotiating table probably hadn't taken nearly as long as the Lord Admiral would have wished, but he served at Her Grace's pleasure and would not keep her waiting. She lifted a hand to gesture one of her ladies in waiting over, exchanging a soft whisper with the woman whom was sent scurrying to the back of the room where Lord Daranek was making acquaintance with the Marilsani shipwrights. In the moments it took for the poor man to tear himself away from the fascinating designs and the conversations with his interests, Auxerre took a sip of her wine again and returned it to the edge of the table. They did not wait long for the quarter including translator to rejoin their countrymen. The Sithire and Lord Admiral leaned close to one another and exchanged a brief back and forth in soft murmurs. Finally, she nodded and turned back to the ambassadorial delegations.

"We would like to offer your shipwrights a contract of five years each, to produce ships for the Transdarianian Navy, here in Drache," Lord Admiral Daranek said with forthwith candor. This was a long time commitment, which both Sithire and Admiral seemed aware was unlikely to be granted so easily.

Prior to the Lord Admiral's words, Alejandra nodded to Sajaad, "We can find some time in the coming days to meet and get this all down to be gone over by our respective ruling bodies, that works well for me."

Alejandra pursed her lips faintly while she mulled the number over in her head. A sip of wine was taken while she deliberated. It was certainly longer than Torissa had anticipated, but could be well worth the additional time. Before she spoke, she exchanged some words with her translator, as well as with both shipwrights, who returned to discuss terms with her before a decision could be made. After a few moments, she smiled and turned back to Isabelle and the Lord Admiral.

"Your Grace, Lord Admiral, that is certainly quite the commitment on both our parts. I would like to make a small adjustment, if I may. If their commitment is for five years, we would need an additional year to build the slips and dry docks, and to train your countrymen during that time to be part of the workforce. We can fund this additional year for these purposes, and will provide the necessary supplies. There are also... additional expenses involved with the building of warships. Ore for smelting and casting for weapons and nails, textiles for sails, and access to a vast source of wood, tar and oils. Will you be willing to contract these out to Marilsan as well, your Grace? As our new friends and neighbors have stated earlier, they mine from the same mountain chain.. Marilsan would be happy to share the contract for the additional essentials with them."

There was a lot of coin to be made in the shipbuilding trade, and specifics could be further nailed down, but this was also an offer that could strengthen each nations' holds in their regions.

"We would also like a more permanent Embassy to join with the others. Your castle is lovely, but for a commitment this long we would all like to have a bit of space to call home."

Sajaad nodded to Alajandra’s assurances of continued talks between their nations on a formal treaty. And like Hydek, her attention therein spanned back to the talks that transpired back to the ship plans.

The two leaned into one another to whisper several advisements back and forth before they went on to further absorb the discussion.

The choice of five years was deliberately high, if only to provide a place to negotiate from. They had expected the ambassador to balk, but not to provide additional assets and support. While Auxerre's expression hardly wavered beyond the polite mask that she wore during such discussions, the Lord Admiral displayed genuine surprise that quickly melted away into obvious pleasure. A thin smile touched his bearded face as inclined his head, indicating his willingness to make such concessions. It was really the Sithire's call, though Lord Daranek leaned over towards her to whisper his thoughts on the matter into her ear. She turned her head towards him slightly and listened patiently before picking up the negotiations.

"These broad terms are agreeable, Ambassador Castilleja. We welcome the opportunity to host Marilsan properly in Drache. We will find a suitable location in the Diplomatic Quarter beneath Castle Black to construct or refit for a Marilsani embassy," she said softly, emerald eyes twinkling with keen interest in the matter. There was a moment of pause as she took up her cup of wine and sipped on it as she continued to watch the two delegations. "Perhaps we can hammer out the details of this in the coming days. Lord Daranek is more knowledgeable about the needs of Transdariania than I am." The Sithire glanced his way again, her expression serene. "I have the utmost faith in him to negotiate suitable terms that benefit both Drache and Marilsan."

"Your vote of confidence is appreciated, Your Grace," the Admiral said in reply. He turned his gaze back to Castilleja. "Drache has constructed drydocks, there is just a... mmm, lack of suitable shipwrights." He was at least passing familiar with their current location, but it did not seem to bother him overly much at the moment. The Transdarianian navy was small, and composed primarily of Pentlander vessels. Any bolstering of its numbers and the training of additional crafters would be appreciated.

Even though it was a high number, it was easy to accept it. After all, they would be getting paid for this, and for a suitable navy, 5 years seemed like a worthwhile number. Teaching Trandarianians the trades of shipbuiding would only benefit them both in the long run.

"Our thanks, Your Grace." As the Sithire turned back to the Lord Admiral, so did she, listening to what he had to say. When he assured her they had drydocks, she simply smiled. A sip of wine followed, and she shared a few words with the shipwrights. She shifted position in her seat and leaned forward a bit and looked between the Sithire and her admiral, weighing in her mind just how she wanted to proceed before she finally spoke.

"You'll pardon me I hope, you say you have drydocks and that is all well and good, but you have never built a Marilsani ship. You'll have to allow us to inspect them to see if they would handle the task? Either way, we all look forward to nailing down the rest of these terms and building a long standing relationship with both of you." This last bit was offered to both the Sithire and Admiral, as well as her Tyhinnese counterpart.
