BDI's 22nd Birthday

BDI turns 22 on March 23rd. (I think it's this day, it coincides with an IC holiday during this week, but I always forget which.) BDI was founded on EFNet by AngelSin and BLKDRAGON on IRC during this week in 1995 with an email that was sent out to a number of potential players.

Since then, BDI has expanded and grown exponentially. It's seen its low periods and high periods, and I'm happy to report that the last year in BDI has been extremely active.

Thank you all. <3

Player Appreciation

We recently had a player bring an idea about celebrating our player base. We've been tossing around some ideas about how and when exactly we plan on doing this but the first idea was to raffle off a prize or two. Right now, the details are still a little fuzzy, but this will coincide with the end of the civil war and the celebrations that we're planning for this spring.

The Site Migration

The site has migrated from the old address and host of www.arangoth.org to its original domain name and new host, www.blkdragon.com. Please update your links accordingly. If you're reading this, you're on the right site. No data was lost. The wiki and forums are right where we left them.

DNS propagation had taken longer than expected due to an unforeseen complication, but has long since been remedied.

With this migration, we've introduced a new design to the main site. Some of the updates made to the site at this time beyond the cosmetic include the new forms for Civic Guard and Magistrate characters, as well as setting additions.

Any abnormal site behaviour should be reported to me. (Forums or IRC message is fine.)

Policies Have Changed, Have You Read Them?

The rules have changed! They're mostly still the same, organized slightly differently with a couple of additions that should be reviewed. If you haven't by now, you should definitely read them.

Help With the FAQ

So as it might not be surprising, I totally suck at trying to view things as a new player. There are certain things that BDI veterans know that aren't really written anywhere. Or in general, questions that new players have about how things work in BDI that could benefit from being written down somewhere.

The FAQ is a project that I've attempted to do off and on since I took over the channel five years ago. And I always fall short, so I'm asking for help. Even if it's just questions that you have or think that people would ask, I'll take them. Feel free to post them up on this thread. <3

The Civil War

Word from Ruthmarna indicates a battle took place which resulted in a decisive victory over the Royal Expeditionary Forces. With the main military thrust of the Northern effort dispersed and likely unreplaceable, the people of Drache and their allies are faced only with those troublesome former Border Watch who have taken to banditry and brigandry. While it is unclear what Tagrana's response will be at this moment, the future is looking hopeful. Sadly, losses among the mercenaries and noble volunteers were heavy, so few details on the actual battle have returned to Drache.

The Tourney & Festival

With the (OOC) end of the civil war in sight, and several plaintive requests from Riddy for two years to have another Tournament of Martial Prowess, we are definitely going to be going forward with both.

The Tournament is a diced event to fairly determine a winner. The rules can be found here and are pretty simple. Running the tournament takes about a month or so to accommodate player schedules and the various brackets. We will be announcing sign ups soon, as well as organizing the brackets. This will be a single elimination tournament unless the brackets require a double elimination.

The festival will also be an IC event and probably will run at the close of the tournament due to how long the tournament is expected to take.

Updating the Drache's Merchant Guide

There's several "new" player run establishments that ought to be added to the Drachean Merchant Guide. So if you have a business and you'd like it added, write a one to two paragraph blurb about it, submit it to this thread, and I'll be happy to add it.

A family owned and operated business since 487. Support your community: buy local!

Javakh's General Store is a sturdy, two-story structure of carved stone and shaped logs reminiscent of hunting lodges and woodland refuges. The first floor contains just about anything an adventurer might want, from ropes and packs to healing potions. A variety of simple and exotic weapons line the back wall and a heavy staircase near the back of the main floor leads upward. The second floor features a variety of magical items, weapons, and armor, including a few rare items of wonder. All of these items are kept under lock and key in resilient display cases. A small forge is located in a back room for basic armor and weapon repairs.
