The Treeless Tundra of Panguro has a two month growing season every cycle, despite the almost all year round freezing temperatures. The winds are harsh on the tundra so most of the flora grows in clusters to form an natural barrier against such winds. There are over 300 plants that grow on the tundra, and only plants with the shallowest roots grow there.

Common

Growberry is a staple upon the tundra, for all animals during the leanest part of the seasons. It is one of the few plants that can grow all year round. The purple berries and green leaves attract the various species of the tundra. The plant has uniquely adapted to the tundra by growing very low to the ground, and very little height. While it is not quite a ground cover it does spread via its shallow roots underground.

Rodarb is a strange little plant with red leaves and what can be described as spindlish yellow hairy legs. The stems of the plant are covered with a fine type of hair-like growth that helps it to conserve heat. This plant has some type of poisonous properties because it is not consumed by any of the animals on the tundra. An unusual feature about this plant is that it is not consumed by any of the animals on the tundra.

Witch Walk is a form of willow, but not like the willow trees that are fairly common without all regions. These willows grow close to the ground. They also have yellow hair-like growth that covers their stems and roots the yellow color helps the plant to stay warm. This plant is also edible and gathered by people and animals because it is rich in calcium, vitamins, and used in tonic's and teas to reduce inflammation and pain. The plant is flexible, it is not found in groupings but grows separately as it can bend to manage the harsh winds.

Aquatic Moss is the most plentiful plant on the tundra and many aquatic animals partake of it. It can grow on the surface of ice, however it primarily grows beneath the surface of the water. It does not have roots, but rhizoids. The plant is covered in small leaves which makes it easier for the plant to sustain itself on the limited amount of photosynthesis it can glean from the sun (s). It grows all year long. It is a favored study of the Royal University scientists because it reveals quite a bit about the natural evolution of life in such a harsh climate.

Winter Poppy. This plant is about 10 cm tall, with a single flower per stem. The flower heads follow the sun, and the cup-shaped petals help absorb solar energy. The milky fluid that seeps from tiny cuts in the unripe poppy seeds is used by the various tribes on The Sword Isle. This milky fluid is air dried and is called Opium.

Crimson Algae. Though algae look like plants, they are not classified in the plant kingdom. The outer crimson leafy lettuce- like layers contain polysaccharides, this is extracted from the crimson algae by boiling. The result is a thickener for soups.

Alpina Is a short bluish grass that is another staple on the tundra, it grows well in compacted areas where the bison are most frequent.

Uncommon.

The Bloodshroom. These fungi grow close to the ground in small clusters, and only grow during the two month summer season on the treeless tundra. The Bloodshroom is a flat white mushroom with red jelly like spots. When stepped upon it explodes in to a bloody mess. The jelly like substance aggravates the skin causing puss-filled lumps. The fungi is highly toxic and is used as a poison among some of the tribes on the Islands.

Violent Allure The foliage of this plant is extravagantly slashed and twisted, delightful in and of itself. But starting in spring and lasting for much of the summer, the established clump will sport dozens of small flowers that blend violet purple and cobalt blue. However, when the flowers begin to die off they release a virtually undetectable smelling poisonous gas, that induces vomiting and dizziness.

Winter Toad Stool. This hardy plant grows rapidly and spreads quickly and thrives in the winter temperatures of the tundra. The plant looks like a deformed toad, the succulent toad shaped leaves are covered with a strange warty tubercles that are rough to the touch. Yellow flowers pop out on the warts in the spring. The succulent leaves are cut open and the slightly jelly filled leaf is sucked upon and used as an infection relief.

The Marine Leech moves its strange convoluted form through the water in a snaking sidewinder type motion with great stealth it often plays a demented game of hide and seek with smaller boats in warmer waters. Its large white and fat and coiling. Its bloated form often oozes with slime. The Marine leach is about the thickness and size of a 36" culvert pipe and 25 feet to 30 feet in length. The outer layer of its flesh is nearly transparent and you can see a tracery of blue veins under its white skin. When it strikes it coils like a serpent, and just before it strikes more slime bubbles forth. The slime acts like a paralyzer to its prey. Gouts of thick brown fluid is spit at its prey, the spit looking much like spider blood webbing and it stinks like a corpse pulled from a river. Inside its jagged, puckered, black mouth are rows of four inch long teeth that push out of its mouth to grasp and pull in prey. Another unique feature on the Marine leech is its tongue, a corkscrew type of appendage designed to drill into its victim’s flesh and devour it from the inside out.

An image of a tape worm could be used, or a white worm fishing lure.

Fauna/aberrations Submissions for Elgar Forest

Post by Kestrel »

Slepge
This possum like fanged creature is said to reside in the forest of Elgar and are thought to be the ancestral spirits of the people who live in the area. The legend makes them out to be a kind of ghost in the darkness, a being which haunts the forest because it has unfinished business with the living. They sneak around in the darkest reaches of the trees and are generally considered to be malicious.

Creature Unknown
This creature exists largely on stories and the remains of its victims. Eyewitness accounts come from the occasional explorer in to Elgar Forest and many people living around the edge of it. Despite the numerous victims it leaves mostly near the swampy region of Elgar. There is a lack of physical evidence of the creature. The bodies of its supposed victims have never been examined to confirm its existence. Most attribute the sightings and left over's as a misidentified dragon or gigantic bat. (Currently being used in an sl by Rav)

Vozeegald
Is a huge bloody black ball of ooze that can shape-shift in to other forms. It has the ability to be invisible, and those who do see a vozeegald should take it as a death omen. Although it often takes the form of a big black dog it can also present itself as a demonic donkey. Whatever form it takes it can be known by the dreadful sound of a woman screaming. As this is how it lures in its prey.

Thagg
A Thagg somewhat resembles a man, its hands especially, and the region around the eyes being distinctly human. It walks on its hind legs, in a stooping posture, its long arms swinging below the knees. In height it is less than an average man, the entire body except for the face is covered by long hair, with most of the growth being on the chest which is large, corresponding with the great strength of the creature.

Nugwi
A Nugwi is a large, brown-skinned, and muscular half-man-half-worm creature with a rattle-like tail. Can take over the bodies of people who sit beneath the tree where it makes its nest. The Nugwi's skin is supposedly impossible to pierce or damage. And perhaps makes the rarest armor in all of the globe. The Nugwi are very wise and just as deadly.
