Solving a Sticky Situation

Post by Nymphetamine »

The current stirrings of anti-vampire feelings amongst the city council did not go unnoticed. While she did not have to keep an agent in the council, she was privy to their goings on. Allowed to function autonomously, the Sithire hadn't yet the opportunity or need to step in or become involved in their day to day functions. But this was an invitation, a recommendation of action against other vampires.

And it shed unfortunate light on her own dubious citizenship claims. In review with a number of barristers on the subject, the results were thus. Though she had funded the expedition to slay the magma wyrm Drogyoldiiv, who had terrorized Drache for two and a half years, and though she had been granted citizenship in Drache, it had ultimately not come from King Arlok ul-Dorn. As the king had the legal precidence at the time, Drachean interests lined with gold had given her the citizenship. Legally, this meant that even Isabelle Auxerre was not a legal citizen of Drache or Transdariania, despite her seat as both sithire and arangire.

While troubling, there was a solution to this prickly problem, the barristers said. Under current Transdarianian law, the Sithire was empowered to grant citizenship in the same manner that the Crown had. All she had to do was sign the writ and file it within the sithrangel's archives located in Castle Black. It was questionable at best to sign one's own patent of citizenship, that was a matter for the courts to handle.

There could be little doubt that Sithire Auxerre's efforts during and since the Civil War, had been to the benefit of Drache and Transdariania. She had marshalled the Lord Protector into action to secure the Elgaria border. She had facillitated the construction and endowment of the Mage Guild, and generously donated her own funds to research at the Royal University. Sithire Auxerre had little patience for other vampires and had been stern and disciplined with them when the needs arose. As a councilwoman during the Civil War, when the treasury had been encased in hardened rock, she had funded the bounties for vampires herself. She had no need to feed from humans or other mortals, having made other arrangements.

An exit strategy was already engineered and had been from the first day. Isabelle Auxerre would not fall to a mob seeking vampiric heads. While maintaining stability in Drache had been of paramount concerns of her from the very outset, it was not worth dying for.

So the citizenship declaration was dated for shortly after her coronation. A trusted clerk was sent to file it with the rest of the documentations of such thing, carefully placing it in the dated location that would suggest it had always been there.

The vampiric duchess of Drache was a citizen, again.
