Common Names

I took this from the ML to re-add it to the wiki, since the link from the old site is broken.

Subject: BDI> Arangothian Names

According to a recent survey, the following are the most common personal
names found among the native Arangothian population in Drache:

MALE
Kenglith, Marnuth, Alathar, Alfrith, Asproth, Dorn, Bralk, Branth, Sarnem,
Ware, Sanglith, Oryan, Fenduth, Huixon. [Recently many parents have also
been naming their sons "Kylus," "Metzen," and "Bolk," the last being
the closest they can come to pronouncing "BLK."]

FEMALE
Delvige, Silge, Dekressa, Silmdinth, Serpessa, Sarla, Tarla, Rixte,
Perlegi, Peraldinth, Pellatgi, Nimpet, Sarlakelet, Lermat, Leptat,
Hurnmilve, Gordge, Nistgi, Gessipir, Valknandra, Nedixe, Nepse, Neskessa.
[Recently the names "Lex," "Lixa," and "Alysia" have also become popular.]

SURNAMES
Aborod, Anquodire, Appodarod, Aptentrod, Arlothek, Arnak, Blanire, Bobire,
Branissod, Brogod, Dabalbire, Daranek, Silad, Senketh, Sallod, Rixtire,
Ruthmire, Quarflis, Pinek, Parmilod, Orgod, Pallod, Netrilod, Neserpix,
Nerxod, Nelxik, Nege, Flinod, Folvad, Galebrod, Mitrod.

Note: typically a person will take his or her father's name as a middle
name, preceded by the prefix ul-, for example:

Kenglith ul-Alathar Mitrod
(i.e. Kenglith Mitrod, son of Alathar Mitrod.)

Serpessa ul-Fenduth Quarflis
(i.e. Serpessa Quarflis, daughter of Fenduth Quarflis.)

Subject: BDI> "Common" Names and their Arangothian Equivalents: A

Abraham = Millaturreth
Adela = Gemarind
Adolph = Gossahuixon
Adrian = Silad *
Agatha = Vanpin
Albert = Gossagord
Alexander, -dra, Alice, etc. = Terbitentrix
Amanda = Serpessa
Ambrose = Musigix
Amelia, Amy = Gavan
Andrea, Andrew = Terbik
Anna, etc. = Flenth
Anthony = Sanskaranth *
Arthur = Marnuth
August, etc. = Lespe

NOTES: In some cases names refer to European place names or have unknown
origins, in which case they are of course untranslatable. I have tried to
come as close as possible, but have noted these with an asterisk. Because
"gemarind-" for "noble" is rather a mouthful in itself, I have substituted
"gossa-" or "royal" in most cases.
