Melinxa was born into a clan within the Minkbranthan High Lands, before it was officially Minkbrantha. They were simple people, but not without their redeeming qualities. As a young girl, she was raised in their old ways, and learned lhunting, basketry, herbalism, and other primitive skills. By the time she was twelve, however, she&#039;d taken a much greater interest in reading than working, and read whatever books their clan traders could bring back to her.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
At sixteen, Melinxa left her tribe to spend her year abroad. She landed in Drache, and she never looked back. There she fell rapidly into cosmopolitan life, enjoying watching parties from afar, and lamenting her simple attire that prevented her attendance. Eventually, she earned a job as a book keeper, then a legal assistant, and finally, an magistrate.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
During the reign of Sithire Isabelle Auxerre she was appointed Chancellor of Drache, where she served for several years before her liege lady&#039;s fall from power. This proved a great blow for Melinxa, who fancied her place in the world.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She applied to remain a magistrate, and... &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
=Personality=&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Melinxa is astute and prim. Despite her earthy upbringing she has taken to the life of Crown Official, and develop the personality of an expert stateswoman and bureaucrat. She is orderly, professional, and cool in situations of tension. She seldom ever raises her voice.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Melinxa is a relatively private woman, and her dating life, if it exists, is well hidden away from the tabloids. But, she does occasionally smile, and enjoys spending time in parks and along the seaboard.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
Melinxa is tall for a human woman, not overtly so, but tall enough to be noted, especially in the heeled boots she preferred. With golden blonde hair and keen amber eyes, she strikes people as both beautiful, and unfriendly.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She prefers her hair up, in intricate but modest braids, and often includes silver pins in her hair. Sometimes they jingle, if dressed for a ball, but usually they do not.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
She is of fair complexion, with a dusting of freckles across her nose, and usually wears spectacles. Her jewelry consists only of a silver ring on each middle finger, and a ruby about her neck on a silver chain.&lt;br /&gt;

&#039;&#039;This setting is temporary. It is designed to provide an alternate playing location and to explore more of the setting at large. Characters may be made for this particular setting, or moved here from elsewhere on a temporary basis. ===== FOB Prima =====&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Located two miles south of the Grand Canal and centrally along the land taken from Tribes by the combined forces of Minkbrantha, The Bloody Fifth and Transdariana, is Forward Operating Base Prima. It has been more than a year since the base was established, so while it is far short of a grand fortress, it is a substantial settlement. FOB Prima is comprised of four main parts. At it&#039;s center is a long ago abandoned and partially reconstructed stone keep. This serves as the headquarters for occupying military elements, which handle the functions a government would in an ordinary settlement. Moving out from the keep is the earliest constructions at the FOB; barracks, stables, smithies, canteens, dining halls and depots. Protecting the installations made by the military elements is a 15 foot wooden wall, which is routinely manned, and which closes it&#039;s gates at night. Further out from the wall, and all around it are the settlements that come with these sorts of places. Temporary and permanent shelters, business and services provided by enterprising civilians wrap around the FOB, providing essential services, entertainment, and resources.&lt;br /&gt;

===== Conditions =====&lt;br /&gt;

While the soldiers and their support network at FOB Prima enjoy relative comfort, from a soldier&#039;s perspective, they provide only basic services to the civilians that have taken up residence around their walls. Fresh water is available via wells, and the soldiers do make efforts to provide policing, but food, shelter and other resources must be brought along, arranged for or purchased.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It is the rainy season, you can&#039;t hope for rain without dealing with the mud. Everything is muddy, most of the time. It&#039;s gloomy, and gray. Temperatures are warm during the day, but chilly at night, and being wet doesn&#039;t help.&lt;br /&gt;

===== Getting There =====&lt;br /&gt;

Via Ship - Supply barges routinely make the voyage up and down the canal. Some will stop the docks a few miles north of FOB Prima.&lt;br /&gt;
Via Land - Travel through Zul Kiras, around it, or south from the Tyhinese lands.&lt;br /&gt;
Via Air - Fly straight there. But fly high, the Orcs will shoot at aerial units.&lt;br /&gt;

On October 15th, each year, all of the children in their eighth year of life, born to parents in Castle Dreth or Caeth, the original lands of House Dreth, must report to the Trial Master at the lake in Caeth.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The location of The Gathering is symbolic, as the lake directly overlooks the Iron Cemetary, where the weapons of each fallen soldier is displayed, upright, plunged into a stone mosaic. Though their bodies are burned, their weapons serve as a lasting reminder of their sacrifice.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
When all the children are assembled, the following passage is read;&lt;br /&gt;

By now most of the initiates are highly skilled warriors capable of operating as a team. They are tough and tenacious. By and large, most will make it into the Fifth Regiment. The Leadership Phase identifies the Knight Candidates.&lt;br /&gt;

Initiates are separated into two person teams and dropped off in remote locations. They are given extremely limited tools and no weaponry. They are to survive for one month. Trainers are used as &#039;enemy&#039; who hunt and attack them. If found and captured, they are removed from the Trials.&lt;br /&gt;

Those who achieve officer ranks or great honor in combat, as well as those killed in combat under valiant conditions are awarded land. Selective Breeding (Castle Dreth/Caeth) - The people of Castle Dreth and Caeth practice socially enforced Selective Breeding. The Warrior Class is only allowed to marry into itself and those that display great prowess in combat or strategy routinely select a partner of equal capability. Anyone who violates this social norm is quickly ostracized. This behavior has promoted larger, more physically and mentally fit people for coupling, and over generations resulted in notable differences on average of the people of Castle Dreth and Caeth when compared to other regions of Arangoth. The gene pool remains fresh, however, thanks to those elevated by the Trials. Though not talked about there is a notable lack of handicapped or misformed personages. This could imply particularly good breeding, or infanticide.&lt;br /&gt;

They value hard work, good beer, roaring fires and excellent music. The Hunt - From November fifth through November twenty-fifth all personages of Minkbrantha, regardless of class, are encouraged and afforded time to hunt down and kill at least one game animal or monster. This activity is new, and encouraged to increase participation in woodsmanship, monster-hunting and collective survival.&lt;br /&gt;

Said to be one of the most elite Infantry Regiments in all of Arangoth the Bloody Fifth Regiment is the pride of House Dreth and the vanguard of offensive and defensive operations in the north west ( [[Minkbrantha]] ).&lt;br /&gt;

The Fifth is known specifically for several successful campaigns and operations, including the Garrison of Drache during the Civil War.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Their success in combat is attributed to several factors. The soldiers and knights of the Bloody Fifth are fanatical, their entire society revolves around military service and they are indoctrinated in the culture from birth. Those selected as Knights and On-Duty train from age 8 until age 16 before being sent into the regular force. Their reserves are bolstered and lead by tested veterans. Their equipment is top notch. House Dreth commands the unit directly, and all of their children are trained tacticians and strategists.&lt;br /&gt;

* On Duty - The men and women of the &#039;on duty&#039; component of the Fifth Regiment also must complete the [[Trials of the Sword]], though do not score well enough, or lack the requirements to become a Knight. Instead, they serve for eight years on active duty with the Bloody Fifth. When they are not deployed forward they are routinely training. These professional, elite soldiers make up the bulk of the Fifth&#039;s regular forces. After their eight years of service On Duty soldiers are allowed to retire to the reserve and return home. Though they may stay on duty indefinitely, or until their leadership feels they no longer serve the needs of the unit.&lt;br /&gt;

The Asylum is an imposing structure, it could just as easily be a prison or a fortress as it is a place for the insane. The walls, shaped like a star to repel the tremendous waves during storm surge, are constructed of massive, uncut stone from the Island itself. Each of the points of the five stars features a guard tower with chain link over the windows. &lt;br /&gt;

Few know the layout of the grounds, but those that have flown over state that there is a main structure at the center, several small out buildings and some barracks style housing. Between much of the structures is gardens, long since overgrown and abandoned by the staff.&lt;br /&gt;

On a separate peninsula from the main structure is a thick, tall tower. During low tide it can be accessed via a the peninsula, though the jagged rocks are extremely slippery and the currents below would quickly batter an unfortunate soul against the rocks, before dragging them out to or under the sea.&lt;br /&gt;

The Asylum is an imposing structure, it could just as easily be a prison or a fortress as it is a place for the insane. The walls, shaped like a star to repel the tremendous waves during storm surge, are constructed of massive, uncut stone from the Island itself. Each of the points of the five stars features a guard tower with chain link over the windows. &lt;br /&gt;
