Origins & History

Sh'hazrid is an archetypal Najjira city – an island of life in an ocean of sand. The master architect Abdelkader was once a Qarsythian national, confined to a dungeon so that he would not reveal his inventions to other domains. A palace vizier, Kamil, who harbored feelings for the genius, helped Abdelkader escape on a carpet of levitation. Kamil later ran off into exile and met up with his lover at the oasis, where, protected by a tribe of Shushan mercenaries, they conceived of Sh’hazrid. It took The Architect ten years to plan out the city. It took even longer than that to build. The master died before he saw his great work completed.

The first citizens of Sh’hazrid were the work-crews that built it, comprised of all sorts of exiles and ne’er-do-wells from around Najjir. As generations passed, new people came to the city and today it commands a flourishing domain – receiving travelers and growing highly prized coffee in its rooftop greenhouses.

Government

Sh'hazrid is an Emirate.

Layout & Architecture

This city-state sits atop an enormous oasis in the middle of the desert, and it remains one of the closest major points of civilization to the crystal frontier. Sh’hazrid is an architectural marvel – entirely planned out and constructed as a single sprawling building with giant aqueducts, hanging gardens, dwelling spaces and walkways woven right into it. The city’s unique irrigation system harnesses the waters of the oasis and distributes it throughout the city, eliminating the need for wells.

Laws & Customs

Sh’hazrid’s bazaar is distributed across the walkways, stairs, and terraces of the city. Another main source of income for the city comes from the veins of gem and crystal running through the desert floor and hills around the region. Miners and slaves commanded by the Emir have little by little chiseled away at the resources going further and further out from the city. There is one boundary however that they shall not cross: the Crystal Frontier.

Groups of Interest

The Razzak Clan: The enormous Razzak family are famous for being Najjir’s top accountants and jewelers. Though they hail from Sh’hazrid, they can be found in any large Najjira city.
